V and all, there was a very interesting column over at thestreet.com.

The writer implied that MSFT intentionally down played Q1 results and future earnings. The reason being 1) perhaps it would get sympathy for DOJ but not likely 2) this is the important one I think, MSFT has over $20B in cash and can continue to operate w/out a hiccup. Where as other companies that may rely on using their stock to make acquistions to expand are now at a severe disadvantage compared to where they were just a month ago.

MSFT has always used its warchest to finance growth and never had to rely on using its stock. No other company in corporate America has that kind of cash reserves.

MSFT has now managed to level the playing field just a little bit longer while they buy their time w/ the DOJ mess. An interesting thought don't you think?
