While i remain open to evidence on that question, no i am not convinced at all that JM wants to leave Cuba. Not all do, you know. I think his biggest concern was to recover his son in one piece. Being faced with demands from Miami for him to choose between his son and his country will not have fostered in the man the most favourable impression of the US.

What i did say was that i personally would point out to him that imho he would be better off raising a family well away from the Cuba-Miami area ... but i also understand ties to country, and would never in any case interfere with his absolute moral right to make his own decisions for his own family.
