I don't WANT to draw attention.
I can't remember if I included this when I talked about Ammo getting his tux, but when they guy asked him what he wanted, he said,
"Something that doesn't draw attention to me. I don't like to be noticed."
Although why he would think wearing a hat, a black shirt and a silver tie wouldn't make him noticeable sort of puzzles me, except that he chose things that felt like HIM, which in his mind, wouldn't feel eccentric. Does that make sense?

I imagine you doing the same thing. True eccentrics are oblivious-- and are so surprised to learn that they are perceived as odd.
My mother had a friend who worked very hard at being eccentric. I think she saw herself as the Shirley MacLaine of Lexington. She said outrageous things but they were patently designed to be outrageous, and were more often rude. She mostly drove everyone crazy or pissed people off. She just wasn't cute at all.

When I start wearing purple, I hope it's not to show how wonderfully independent and eccentric I am, I hope it's because I really love purple.
