Steve - RE: "The prices have almost dropped a speed grade.
I can now buy a 700 Athlon for almost the same price a 650 was selling for last weekend."

Gateway's website reflects this. Their $1299 "sweet spot" computer now has an Athlon 700 inside it. As we all know, it was previously a 650. The $1599 Select system is now a 750 Athlon, it used to be a 700. The 1GHz system is now $2899.

When the 900 and 950 came out, we questioned why AMD didn't just jump from 900 to 1GHz. I think the reason was to satisfy the OEMs. Gateway is mainly using x50MHz Athlons while Compaq is using x00MHz Athlons.
