Jozef - well we'll agree to disagree on this one. It's ok, in my profession you get used to the fact that not all people will see the value of creating a brand.

One more way to think about it. When Intel used to cut prices, it was basically to keep competitors from making profits on the thin margins. They could do it because people wanted Intel products (they still do). Now many people know that AMD has a competitive product (less than you think). Now AMD's margins are much improved. If people ASKED for Athlon products (believe me, they don't), computer makers would order them - and AMD wouldn't have to discount ASPs. Dell customers don't ask for AMD products. That will ONLY change if AMD's perception changes - and that can happen much quicker with an abbreviated ad campaign. As I said earlier, it takes time to build a brand, AMD can't afford to wait until 3rd quarter to do it. It might be too late.

Also, Intel's credibility is currently tarnished. AMD should take advantage of the situation the are in. They would have more listeners.
