Ancor to Supply Fibre Channel Switches to EMC

Ancor-based Connectrix Switches to Add Departmental Connectivity to EMC

Enterprise Storage Network

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., April 25 /PRNewswire/ --

Ancor Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: ANCR), a leading Fibre Channel switch provider, today announced an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with EMC Corporation, the world's leading provider of enterprise storage systems, software and services. Under the terms of the agreement, Ancor will provide its SANbox 16-port Fibre Channel switches for use in EMC's Enterprise Storage Network.

To be marketed by EMC as the Connectrix DS-16A Fibre Channel switches, Ancor's SANbox switches provide a cost-effective, high-performance connection to heterogeneous departmental and workgroup servers, effectively extending the powerful capabilities of the EMC Enterprise Storage Network (ESN) to smaller, distributed storage area networks (SANs).

Ancor's switches will provide customers with a flexible, extensible solution for growing very large, heterogeneous SANs that can be easily centralized and managed within the Enterprise Storage Network.

The EMC Enterprise Storage Network (ESN) comprises a dedicated, high-speed network that uses standard channel technology, including Fibre Channel, to weave together heterogeneous servers, switches and hubs into a single, easily managed, centralized information infrastructure. ESNs consolidate distributed information from departments and business units throughout the enterprise as well as from remote locations over wide-area networks.

"The new Connectrix DS-16A switch enables our customers to extend the benefits of the EMC Enterprise Storage Network even deeper into their organizations," said Jack Garrahan, EMC's Vice President of Global Marketing. "It will complement EMC's ESN strategy by increasing customers' options and consolidating more information from more sources throughout the enterprise."

"We are delighted to be part of EMC's powerful Enterprise Storage Network," said Cal Nelson, Ancor's President. "Ancor's SANbox is a flexible, high-performing switch that will enable users to cost-effectively link their departmental storage area networks, bringing multiple, heterogeneous SANs under a single ESN management framework. This has long been the vision of storage area networks. EMC's work in championing the FibreAlliance is helping make this vision a reality."

The SANbox-based Connectrix DS-16A switches will support the FibreAlliance-developed Fibre Channel Management Integration MIB, which provides a common method of managing multiple devices across a heterogeneous storage network. The FibreAlliance is an open consortium of some 40 Fibre Channel suppliers working cooperatively to help their customers deploy and manage effective, interoperable, enterprise-class SANs. Ancor is a charter member of the FibreAlliance.
