Which product is innovative?

Olu - using the definition of "innovation" that both you and GST adhere to, none of the products you mention are innovative.

You could say Apple was not innovative - they copied the graphical user interface idea from Xerox. And I don't believe that Xerox was entirely innovative.

Excel vs. Visicalc? Did Visicalc look or operate anything like Excel today? I don't think so. Did people use computers to crunch numbers before Visicalc? Most certainly.

Word Star? Didn't word processors exist on mini-computers prior to Word Star - and on mainframes prior to minis - and on manual typing machines (known as typewriters) prior to mainframes?

There are very few, if any, "giant leaps" in innovation - most technological ideas are built on top of other technological ideas.

To say the Microsoft has never implemented innovations in it's numerous software products is show yourself as having such a strong bias against Microsoft that you are not able to evaluate the companies products objectively.

I'll pose the question to you that I posed to Glenn. What other non-Microsoft software products are "truly" innovative, that is were developed out of pure inspiration, with no technological predecessors.

And more importantly - what does your view of Microsoft's ability to innovate have to do with whehter or not Microsoft should be broken up?

Thanks,
-Eric
