Yaacov,

I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think Merced is more a proof of a concept than a chip that will contribute significantly to the bottom line.

The follow up product will be McKinley, which may make a fortune for Intel if the Merced architecture (IA-64) catches on.

But in the meantime, Intel will release Cascades, which is the server version of Coppermine with larger L2 cache (> 256KB). This chip happens to be MIA at the moment, but I have seen posts that it will arrive this quarter. The next volume server product in the IA-32 line will be Foster, which should be released shortly after Willamette, or I guess in Q4 2000 or Q1 2001. This promises to be a very good product.

Joe
