Olu - I don't have time to write much, because I am already running late this morning. But I feel compelled to briefly address some of your points before I leave.

If we create a Windows company and mandate that they do not bundle IE/Word/Excel etc..

I interpret this as government regulation - which I interpret as bad for business (I assume you mean "the government" when you say "we mandate"). Do you think that such government innovation will be good for innovation and prices?

No company will have access to hidden APIs and no company will have earlier access to new versions of the OS.

Now you're brining up things that were not a part of the DOJ case. I don't think that topic of "hidden APIs" was ever mentioned in the case (most of the hidden API stuff was debunked long ago).

Thus, we will see new spreadsheets, word processors etc.. etc...

In theory. Reality, in my view will be different.

The applications company will have an incentive to port their apps to other machines/Oses to maximize their revenue stream.

Olu, your smokin' something. I don't think you have any clue how difficult it is to succesfully build and market multi-platform products (very few companies have done it successfully).

The benefit to consumers is that you can now buy the best machines out there (e.g a new Amiga)

Now, I'm certain you're smokin something. So you're one of those Amiga-heads, eh?
