Phone.com

First let me thank you and Susan for the nice Hunt work. I just want to propose that it may make the most sense to watch the server side of the business.

About 2 months ago I was in Europe and an acquaintance was showing me his WAP phone (Nokia something or another). While he was thrilled with it, he was disappointed that so few sites were WAP enable. The example he showed me was a train schedule and a couple of other things. He lamented not being able to get news and his personal investment info.

This was 2 months ago which is an eternity so maybe there is more build out, but what good are the phones without something to retrieve. Its probably a chicken/egg thing. The server side doesn't want to invest until the demand exists, so the phone companies appear to be doing their part seeding the market (in Europe and Japan at the least from your report.)

By the way it is really hard to read much on those very small screens.I think the European kids are probably used to it though. You see them furiously punching buttons on their phones to send messages to each other (SMS short message service or somthing like that.) You'd think they were playing a fast action video game.
