i am not ignoring them. i agree 100% with you that the EU economy is a sclerotic, anachronistic , over-regulated blob ruled by totally witless bureaucrats.
it is way overdue for radical reform.
otoh, i wouldn't want to see it becoming a carbon copy of the US system. in terms of social security, Europe still stands tall, even though many of the aspects of the welfare system are also in need of reform. but believe me, you'd rather be poor or unemployed or in need of medical care in Europe than in the US.
please let's not get into a longwinded debate over the merits or the lack thereof of the statist European welfare system...i do admit that it is probably not sustainable in its current form.
another major problem imo is the EU's agricultural policy, which is basically a waste of precious resources as it stands.
also high up on the list is the civil service, which is generally bloated and home of a privileged class of citizens. if it were cut in half tomorrow, nobody would notice the difference.
all that said, i still believe that the basic principles of Ehrhardt's "Sozialer Marktwirtschaft" (social market economy) are sound and represent an ideal worthy to be pursued. it is just that things have gotten out of hand, and now we're suffocating in rules and regulations.
