I know about inference. It's hard to avoid when engaging a perceived opponent - the temptation to generalize and then demonize is strong. I'm sure I fall prey to it myself at times.

Fwiw I know almost nothing about Ms. O'Hare and her Atheist movement. My agnosticism was won the old-fashioned way, lol It's a bit of a story, but it is out of place here.

As for religion and faith, here are my $.02. Faith is the set of mind (and soul?) that define the relationship between the human individual and the Divine. Religion is the body of rules of conduct, man to God, man to man, man to nature - that come from #1. So I think that it can be possible to be quite irreligious and yet spiritual.
I was inspired by the last two days' proceedings to review the actual text of the Ten Commandments. What I see is this - commandments one through four are specific, defining articles of the Jewish faith and its two direct descendants - Christianity and Islam. The lower half dozen are the "practical" commandments, the ones that provide the elements of moral conduct. I have no beef with five through ten, but one through four are not common to ALL religions. So I'd be pretty upset to see them posted on a school wall where they could be interpreted as policy.
