AMD showed 172 million on their 1st Q earnings report, so they can't even split 3-2.

According to Zack's Research, AMD has 250 million shares authorized of which 152 million are outstanding. The 172 million shares that you refer to includes diluted shares which I believe means optionable shares. AMD does have enough shares to split 3-2.
