Discovery markets are driven by the information that is available to the insiders who know whether it's valuable or not. Once this judgement has been made, the human greed and ego parts of the equation click into gear and the volume explodes as the network becomes aware of the fact that the market cap of the discovery stock is too low. The news works its way out from the center to ever decreasingly informed parts of the food chain. If the deposit is large enough it usually attracts a major who steps in and buys it. If it isn't large enough, a large part of the cash in the food chain gets consumed and is transferred to the people with knowledge as they turn from buyers early to sellers.

Amplats may play the major role eventually, but I'm assuming the people around this play who are informed with respect to this deposits real value are not robots and are still driven by greed, you know the human component. It's not happening that I can see as no one seems in a rush to own this stock at these levels. Big discoveries usually don't lose their liquidity this fast. If that means it is only a little discovery, then it's probably already over priced which may be what the insiders have decided.
