You make some good points, Sam. But, I stand by my contention that the paramilitary tactics used by the INS and their use of terror are similar to those of the Gestapo. I gather from your post that you had first-hand experience with the real Gestapo, and for that you have my respect and condolences. I certainly don't mean to slight your experience by equating it to something less in the context of today's tightening noose of governmental control. The tactics, however, strike a parallel.
The "family" (BTW, I share most of your opinions of them, and the 'fisherman' [as in apostle? <g>] is about the worst glory-hound I've seen) was acting on advice of their pro bono lawyers and in concert with judicial decisions, which is why they weren't arrested -- they'd broken no law. The entire episode hinged around custody, and Renal & Co. refused to allow the courts to make that determination on the basis of the situation as it developed. The warrant, as I understand it, was not a 'forcible entry' warrant. The entire thing smacks of the government proving who has the power, and daring any common people ever challenge that power. Very Waco-like and very Ruby Ridge-like. And, pardon the comparison, very Gestapo-like.
While I'm enjoying the conversation, Sam, I'm not sure this Asia forum is the proper place to continue it. And again, I apologize if you thought I was belittling your personal experiences.
