I followed IBM back then, despite youthful years
in college I learned about IBM more
at Digital I learned that IBM's response was to create five separate and distinct operating system platforms
e.g. MVS, VS, etc
after the breakup effort ceased, IBM was disjointed and without vision

I dont see that happening with MSFT
they seem to have divided efforts now though
e.g. Windows, NTservers, internet

will be interesting to watch the constant battling with DoJ
