kemble, RE: venture cap returns I know that this is an old discussion, but I just got the data, and thought you'd be interested. The 5 year median return for venture cap funds for the 5 years ended 30 Sep 99 was 42.7%. This return is net to limited partners. The return for just sep 98 to sep 99 was 136.4%. This is just to put DELL's returns in perspective, and justify my stance that Dell Capital returns aren't extraordinary on their own but more in line with an entire industry's extraordinary performance. The returns for funds that specialize in early phases of investment (as DELL has emphasized) is much, much higher than that, BTW.
