mere abuse cannot be a criteria for asylum (and it isn't)- there are abused kids EVERYWHERE- millions and millions of them, and some of those kids are really really abused- as opposed to this case. The intent of asylum is not to protect against child abuse- I guess we could all wish it could be for that- but we haven't the resources, and this isn't the poster child case for international child abuse intervention anyway.
