Watch that change.

DELL is no threat in servers in today's still largely processor-centric world but I expect them to be hugely successful in the commodity server peripheral market which is just starting to develop. Remember, in a commodity market those with the lowest costs command the largest share and highest profits. DELL has consistently shown that they are masters of the art of high-volume low-cost manufacturing (same as INTC) and that is why this is a huge opportunity space for them. CPQ has an early advantage because of their position in the current server market but that will last only if they adopt rather than fight the new paradigm. In theory both IBM and SUNW could make a similar transition, but I'll be very surprised if they do. Both companies are very much addicted to the lush margins of the current processor-centric model and are understandably loathe to abandon them for the comparatively meager gruel of the server peripheral market.
