Scumbria,
Maybe I'm not so far out on the limb after all (or at least I'm not completely alone)...
From PC Week, 4/24, pg 35, article titled "Chip Makers' Earnings Soar" (on Intel and AMD results), the last 4 paragraphs:
"We think PC unit sales are going to be down sequentially in Q2, and the only way they [AMD] can perform better is to capture market share from Intel, and that, I think, is a stretch of reality," said Ashok Kumar, an analyst with U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffay, Inc., in Minneapolis.
In particular, Kumar expects Intel to institute more aggressive pricing to stave off AMD's effort to gain enterprise customers.
"Intel will use the weapon it has, which is price, to maintain market share, and there is not much AMD can do about that," Kumar said.
Intel can be reached at (800) 628-8686 or www.intel.com. AMD is at (800) 538-8450 or www.amd.com
I may just have to call AMD and ask them what they intend to do about that. <G>
