Scumbria,

I'm not certain that Intel's investors would take kindly to a huge drop in profits. Intel makes the vast majority of their money from high-end enterprise sales.

Two answers:

1) I doubt Intel investors would like to see Intel give up market share, either. A drop in profits is the lesser of two evils (it's cheaper to retain market share than regain market share)

2) If you think Intel's investors aren't going to take kindly to a drop in profits, wait until you see AMD's investors!
