ILNK: Expands Enhanced Services to Wireless Devices. by: Glotech (49/M) 4/26/00 2:03 pm Msg: 27268 of 27294
I suggest you read the news carefully and hopefully then you will see what I see.
"Enhanced voice/data service provider, today announced that business users can now access and manage their voicemail, e-mail, faxes and personal integrated communications options through personal digital assistants (PDAs) and Web-enabled phones. V-Link, the company's sophisticated suite of enhanced communications services now supports Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), an open, global specification that allows mobile users with wireless devices to access and interact with the Internet instantly. By supporting WAP, I-Link has made it possible for users to access their V-Link account and exercise options currently available through the web-enabled version of the enhanced communication tool."
OBSERVATION: 1. This is very good news and shows I-Link is embracing both the Internet and the Wireless models. Both Internet and Wireless are two exploding markets and I-Link is stepping forward into the future by staying current with the evolving technology growth markets. 2. I-Link is the first company in the history of Telecom to provide an access by WAP enabled devices to their integrated voice and data communications network and enhanced services platform. This is made possible by I-Link's the Pure IP Network using the Softswitch Plus technology. Initially, V-Link enhanced services will be accessible to WAP enabled devices. But as we go forward more and more applications will be developed and made available on the I-Link IP Network. 3. By incorporating WAP into I-Link's network and services, coupled with the availability of GateLink APIs, now it is possible for ASPs to develop products and services for the WAP based markets on the I-Link's IP Network. ASPs can now develop and deploy applications on I-Link's IP Network without having to spend millions of dollars in infrastructure cost. 4. In the next few months, I expect I-Link to be able to provide secure access, through an INDAVO connection, to the subscribers own data servers connect to the I-Link's network. This is exciting and possibilities are huge.
"WAP-enabled V-Link allows users to centralize all of their voice/data communications from home, the office and the road through one telephone number which provides access to a myriad of features, including accessing messages, viewing and printing faxes, forwarding messages to e-mail addresses or V-Link numbers, checking and changing personal settings and creating and maintaining group lists. By incorporating WAP into I-Link's network and services, the company continues its commitment to providing users worldwide with technologies that assist them in keeping in touch from wherever they choose to be, whether on the road, in the office or at home."
OBSERVATION: The whole world wants to be connected and be able to compute and communicate, for business and pleasure, but also desires mobility with freedom of space and time. A combination of WAP enabled devices, integrated voice recognition, secure integrated access network and consumer services using WAP will full-fill this dream and set us free. I-Link is the first company to open-up the communications network and provides access to every thing that will be connected to this network today and in the future.
"The messages collected and stored in V-Link will be delivered to users in a WAP appropriate format, moving the full V-Link experience to WAP devices. Users can try the initial service by accessing wap.i-link.net with their WAP-enabled device."
OBSERVATION: It's available now? come and test drive.
"The Internet is moving onto different devices every day,'' said John Edwards, CEO of I-Link. ``By making V-Link accessible to wireless users, we are ensuring that I-Link's services are able to expand at the same rate as the Internet. No matter where or in what form a person needs to access the Internet, he or she will be able to utilize I-Link enhanced telecommunications services.''
OBSERVATION: All across America there is lots of fiber capacity being deployed. And the recent optical technologies announced by Nortel and Lucent further enhance this capacity by many hundred folds. That's a lot of growth in capacity. It's this technology that is the basis for the new communications superhighway being built right along side of the old.
Although almost no one knows about it yet, this new network will be more powerful than the communication systems owned by AT&T, MCI/Worldcom, and Sprint, put together. The result of this investment by the likes of Quest, Level 3 and Global Crossing will enable an entirely new, higher level of communication. It's been called INTERNET II. Imagine your phone, your television, your fax machine and the Internet all put together, and as mobile as a cell phone [or a Palm Pilot], but cheaper than what you're paying now for local phone service.
I-Link recognizes that capabilities like these are just the beginning, and the huge bandwidth of Internet II will surely improve the QoS over the Public Internet. And accordingly, I-Link recently announced plans to embrace the public Internet to port their converged voice and data communication services-with further cost benefits making I-Link more competitive.
Overall, this is very good news and shows I-Link is embracing the Internet and the Wireless model. Both Internet and Wireless are two exploding markets and I-Link is stepping forward into the future by staying current with the evolving technology growth markets.
Stay tuned there is more to come.
