HOUSTON, Apr 26, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced that Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) has selected the new iPAQ Desktop PC as the hardware of choice for its Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) being held in New Orleans April 25 - 27. The iPAQ will be showcased in numerous venues throughout WinHEC to demonstrate the latest version of Windows(R) 2000 Professional, and to illustrate the ease of using Legacy Free PCs -- both to lower the cost and ease the deployment of Windows 2000-based PCs throughout a company. Microsoft will place iPAQ desktops throughout the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans to provide unlimited access to information and connectivity to attendees. Reporters may easily file their stories using an iPAQ in the working press room. In addition, iPAQ desktops will also be on the show floor to run exhibitor PowerPoint presentations, and in the Microsoft "Neighborhood" exhibit to demonstrate Remote Installation Service. "Microsoft's decision to select iPAQ as their hardware of choice for WinHEC will simplify computing at this conference and allow attendees to experience the industry's first Legacy Free Windows 2000 device," said Anke Renggli, Manager of iPAQ Desktop Products, Compaq Computer Corporation. Compaq currently offers customers a choice between the iPAQ Legacy Free version and a version with legacy ports. Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports provide a standard for peripherals such as keyboards, pointing devices, printers, modems and other options. The Legacy Free version of the iPAQ desktop costs less than $500 and allows customers to easily share equipment.
