IS-2000 (aka cdma2000) is equally vapourware and is considerably further away from an acceptable IMT-2000 implementation than WCDMA. WCDMA (a very misused generic term) will be implemented (in its early non standardized form) with reasonable success and UMTS with UTRA (when implemented) will be the dominant 3G technology. Its almost a foregone conclusion. We are in End Game. All this despite which way DDI leaps. WCDMA (UMTS with UTRA) has considerably more chance of operating outside of a laboratory environment than CDMA ever had when it launched commercial in Korea in 1995 (not without a few bumps) followed by the US in November in 1996 (came off without a hitch). Now while this presents some challenges for Qualcomm, they will overcome it. All JMO & FWIW of course. <g> Never shy about expressing an opinion am I? << Since wcdma is only a variant of cdma and royalties will still be due to Q, it will not affect their status as a Gorilla >> Right On!
