As I said, Blue, I am more than a little out of it. I thought the allegations had to do with physical abuse: it is rumored that Juan Miguel beat up on his first wife, Elizabeth. (I find this hard to square with the fact that Elizabeth's mother is very fond of Juan Miguel.)

When I said that according to the Sunday NY Times article, the allegations came from one of the Miami relatives, I had this passage in mind:

...Among the Gonzalez cousins who have been most important to the story told in Miami is one who came from Cuba little more than a year ago, Alfredo Martell...Alfredo has been a font of assertions meant to undermine Juan Miguel: that Elian's father wanted to move to America himself; that he sometimes beat up Eliza; that he, too, felt betrayed by what had happened to Cuba over the last decade..
