Rural Areas Lag In Broadband Roll-Out
There is a digital divide by population density, the U.S. Commerce and Agriculture Departments said Wednesday. Broadband over cable has been deployed in more than 65 percent of all cities with populations over 250,000, while broadband over telephone has been rolled out in 56 percent of cities with populations over 100,000. Less than 5 percent of towns of 10,000 or less have access to either technology.

AFCI's products are one of the most cost effective systems for Rural areas. Perhaps once the major roll out of broadband DSL is finished, more effort and capital will be spent on cities with populations under 100K. It is with these types of customers that AFCI's products are most cost effective. Therefore, we should see more new orders for UMC1000 systems when the 2nd wave of DSL build out begins. ============================================================ Wednesday April 26, 2:52 pm Eastern Time
Company Press Release
SOURCE: Advanced Fibre Communications (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/000426/ca_advance_1.html) Advanced Fibre Communications Announces ADSL-Ready Platform With V5 Interface
From the article: "...UMC1000© Multi-Service Access Platform (MSAP), with V5.1 and V5.2 interfacing capabilities, is ADSL-ready and has received type approval for deployment by major operators in six countries: China, Colombia, Italy, Korea, Poland and South Africa..."
We finally see the V5 interface working and completed. I believe there were several Chinese customers that held up their orders until this capability was available. Let's hope we now begin to see new orders.
