A cloud is a term for a switch or aggregating point in a frame relay network. For example, a corporate data center may communicate to remote facilities over a frame relay wide area network. The corporate data center may have a T-1 size pipe into a telco frame relay "cloud", while remote branches may have smaller pipes into the same cloud based on the amount of data they need to move. IP addressing keeps track of which packets belong to who. Pipes into the cloud can be purchased for fixed guaranteed data rates, minimums, maximums, etc.

Whether or nor this has anything whatsoever to do with "cloudware" being discussed here is another matter........
