Yes it takes others a great deal of time to realize how wonderful debt is. We are very efficient at knowing where we can get the least expensive labor. From what i have read Japan invested one huge sum into modernizing and bringing things up to par tech wise. What we have been doing for one hundred years is importing highly intelligent people from other nations and growing due to our land mass.
