Do you even understand the sequence of events at Ruby Ridge? A federal agent had been killed by armed extremists prior to the regrettable shooting of the wife. According to deputy marshal Jack Cluff, after marshal Degan was shot by Kevin Harris, his partners "dove into a natural depression in the ground...held their guns overhead and cranked off some rounds blindly in front of them. Presumably Samuel Weaver (Randy"s son) was killed in the exchange." Presumably the dog was killed in this panic of firing. Interestingly deputy marshal Jack Cluff could not say how he came by this knowledge as he was not present at the shooting. Who shot first? Harris, according to the marshals. Degan, the man he killed had an M-16 that had been fired 7 times on semi-auto (had to pull the trigger seven separate times). According to testimony he had done this after being hit in the chest by a fatal shot. Many thought it more likely he had fired these shots before being hit and killed. Interesting that the man(Harris made it back to the cabin) who killed Degan was not shot. The dog and 14 year old Sammy Weaver had been shot in the back. Nice turn of phrase, "regrettable shooting of the wife" Murder, no less.
