But the latest Black Friday incident will prove to be "a watershed" when it comes to people's compensation demands, not to mention career choices, he said.

"There's suddenly more risk associated with equity -- everybody thought if they worked for a dot.com they would become zillionaires because of stock options, now all that's a maybe," Gross said.

"People have already come to me and asked whether to negotiate stock options or whether demand more salary," he added.

"The opportunity to make a million dollars on stock options is not as assured as it was six months or a year ago -- the rosiness just isn't there," Gross said.

Gross said that as people begin to ask for better wages, it will put employers in a quandary.
