But I can't see how the Dollar Index won't eventually decline and decline hard in the face of a declining equity market.

What declining equity market are we talking about? Just because we don't have NEW all time highs this week doesn't mean the Dollar or the markets are going to dump. Where would you rather be: Japan, Europe, or USA? What is the equity growth rate? Have you looked at some of those low PE's out there. Maybe you think a PE of 157 is great for say NEM, yet a 19.5 PE for CMB is to high. I suspect many here are desperate enough to buy into mis-valuations like the internet stocks they complain about. Who says that gold should climb {Not I}.
