PLEASANTON, Calif. and TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 2000-- Commerce One, Inc. (Nasdaq:CMRC - news), the leader in global e-commerce solutions for business, today announced that NTT Communications Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation, Nihon Unisys, Ltd. and Ricoh K.K., have formed a consortium that will implement a Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) e-procurement pilot.

In May, NTT Communications intends to launch NTT MarketSite, an MRO e-marketplace expected to aggregate transactions worth 15 trillion yen by 2003. The site will serve as the Japanese hub of the Commerce One Global Trading Web(TM), the largest business-to-business online marketplace in the world.

``The founding consortium companies investigated a number of Internet-based e-commerce systems,'' said Mr. Hideya Inoue, Senior Executive Vice President of NTT Communications Corporation. ``We chose Commerce One's MarketSite(TM) and BuySite(TM) solutions because they provide cross-platform capabilities and significant economic benefits to both buyers and sellers.''

NTT Communications estimates that buying organizations using the service may be able to lower supply costs by as much as 50 percent and that suppliers may be able to trim selling costs by up to 25 percent.

NTT MarketSite is one of many global trading portals powered by Commerce One. Global trading portals are currently operated by Banacci in Latin America, Bell South, British Telecommunications in the United Kingdom, Cable and Wireless Optus in Australia, Citigroup, Commerce One in the United States, Com2Business in Taiwan, Deutsche Telekom in Germany, Endesa in Spain, NTT Communications in Japan, Portugal Telecom in Portugal, SESAMi.com in Singapore, Sinar Mas Group in Indonesia, Swisscom in Switzerland and Toronto Dominion Bank in Canada. In addition, General Motors and the Royal Dutch/Shell group operate global trading portals for the automotive and energy industries respectively.

The new portal will utilize Commerce One's newly released MarketSite Portal Solution 3.0 and the BuySite 6.0 eProcurement application. NTT MarketSite will provide businesses with real-time buying and selling capabilities for materials and services ranging from pipes and fittings to stationary, office equipment, and airplane tickets. Buyers gain access to an unprecedented number of suppliers and realize lower purchasing costs, while sellers maximize returns from the extended buying community.
