Mike, there are other changes at Dell as well:

a) UNIX adaptable servers are deliverable in about 30 days in order to compete with SUNW
b) improved manufacturing processes have begun to show up on the bottom line
c) Dellnet is attracting more users as Dell expands into Latin America (one of Dell's selling points there will be the internet service tied to the box)
d) Latin America rampup
e) Asian sales witnessing continued strength
f) peripheral sales through Dell.com have increased sequentially each quarter
g) further potential acquisitions in the memory space possible
h) Europe's weakness has the potential of dramatically reversing as wireless technology (WAP) is meshed with PC configs and cell phones require access to more robust software applications
i) Broadband applications via land based optical WMA (wave mulitplexing) will increase the power and applications of the PC 10fold...i.e., PC becomes your TV, and/or TV is internet applicable run by software dependent PC
j) Dell continues to be the revenue per employee leader

i think a presupposed maturation of the US market is fully dependent on (a) few significant product upgrades and (b) wireless and broadband technology not taking off as planned. the broadband "revolution" is the new motherlaod for the PC and its remaking.

at least i'm not sounding like Barton Biggs where everything is going to Hell is his shorted stock basket. Barton was advising buying dow stocks at 11200. so, he's 5% off, no big deal. but comments from men like him relative to the nasdaq serve to increase volatility in an already volatile market. is Biggs a schmoozer?
