Russ,

Do you know what this release (see below) this morning was all about? Is this a 'filler', and just a bit of news on the status of things, while we wait for the latest assay results? Weren't the results from Opon not supposed to be ready by now?

BIRIM REPORTS ON DRILLING OF GOLD PROSPECTS IN GHANA

Montreal, Canada, April 27, 2000 - Birim Goldfields Inc. (BGI:TSE) is pleased to report on its most active drilling exploration programs in Ghana.

Along the prolific Ashanti Gold Belt, Birim completed its second phase of reverse circulation drilling on the Opon gold prospect located at the southern end of the Dunkwa property bordering the operating gold pits of the Bogoso mine (Golden Star Resources/Anvil Mining). This phase consisted of 35 holes (2,134 metres) and was a follow up to the 17-hole (1,075 metres) campaign done in February. As was the case then, all holes were drilled to the east at -60 degrees on fences 50 metres apart, collared on 25 metres centres. Samples within the holes were taken at 1 m intervals and were treated at SGS Laboratories at Tarkwa, Ghana for gold fire assay. The program came under the supervision of Victor King, Birim's Chief Operating Officer based in Accra.

Drilling has continued to define the higher grade Main zone as one extending over a minimum of 200 metres, striking and plunging in a northerly direction and dipping shallowly at between 25 and 40 degrees to the west. To the north, the zone remains open along strike but, although narrower, reports good grades as evidenced by one intersection of 4.09 g/t Au over 7m. at a vertical depth of 50 m.

The East zone, identified by only one drill hole in the February drilling, has now been traced for 300 m and appears to be a parallel lens similar in structure to the Main zone. Some of the better intersections in this recent round of drilling were 1.44 g/t Au over 8 m, 1.35 g/t Au over 9 m and 1.27 g/t over 7 m.

A third drill campaign in this year 2000 has just been recently completed at Mansi West, 8 km. to the north of Opon. This consisted of reverse circulation drilling covering 1,640 metres over 41 holes. Assay results are pending.

Drilling in both areas, Opon and Mansi West, consisted in testing the close to surface oxide material (saprolite) and in each of the 3 drill campaigns the work was contracted out to Geodrill Limited of Perth, Australia.

The Company looks forward with much anticipation to the start of the next drill campaign, expected to commence on May 1. This is the Tombe-Parabu gold prospect at Bui. The initial phase will consist of 4,500 metres of reverse circulation drilling. This prospect covers a strong gold-in-soil anomaly over 6 km. in length with widths reaching 300 m.

Birim's Bui property, located in the west central part of Ghana, consists of four licences covering in total nearly 7,000 sq.km., thus virtually the entire Bui Structural Belt. In the Birimian rock formations, similar to the rocks hosting the Ashanti Gold Belt deposits, the Company has identified 14 distinct targets, 4 of which are at the drill-ready stage, of which the Tombe-Parabu will be the first to be tested. The Company has spent US$2.3 million over the last 2 « years in exploration work at Bui in anticipation to the start of a series of drill tests scheduled to take place over the next year.

Birim Goldfields Inc. is a mining exploration firm whose mission is to explore and develop gold deposits in Ghana, West Africa. The Company currently has 23.8 million common shares outstanding and a working capital of $1.5 million.
