Which ever way it breaks is usually an indication of the start of a trend...

I know what you are saying, but in classic parlance, "the triangle usually breaks toward the dominant/containing trend". As to what that is, well, there's where the art comes in. A break the opposite way is a signal of a reversal. One would have to say that short-term we are in a downtrend, i.e., it's the containing trend.
