AMD wouldn't be a licensee of Rambus, nor would AMD be looking for employees with experience in Rambus, if they didn't see the benefits of Rambus. I think even Fred Weber, one of the head guys for the Athlon design team, said that he saw the benefits of Rambus.

Besides, Jerry Sanders once said that "Itanium will be a misstep for Intel." But most people out there think Itanium has a better chance of succeeding than Rambus. If that's the case, then why wasn't Sanders so negative on Rambus as he was on Itanium?

(It could be that AMD has no chance to enter the IA-64 market even if they wanted to, which is why they have to be so down on Itanium. But it's still rather remarkable to me that AMD hasn't outright declared Rambus as "dead dead dead.")
