Amazon reported a first quarter pro forma loss of $122m, or 35 cents per share -
just one cent better than Wall Street's consensus estimate.

The pro forma numbers exclude charges of $187m relatd to goodwill
amortisation, Amazon's share of the losses of companies it has invested in, and
stock-based compensation.

Amazon's first quarter sales were $574m, 95 per cent higher than the same
period of 1999. It also beat expectations by adding 3.1m customers, and by
recording a gross margin of 22.3 per cent, compared to estimates of 19 per cent.

Good Will amortization was more than the performa loss and when combined with the performa loss is 54% of gross sales LOL.
