I don't see many involved who haven't tried to benefit themselves one way or another, except maybe the kid.
And the father, and those who were doing their utmost in the face of some extremely inflexible people to resolve this peacefully.
Since we now feel it is OK to settle everything with a SWAT Team, including kid grabbing, maybe this was the way it should be.
It's not OK. I hope that hearings are held so that the Republicans can testify to America why they are eroding our civil rights and trying to pin their malfeasance on Janet Reno.
If you think the whole situation is solely the responsibility of "the family" (Horrors! They're Republicans!) and people like me that you call "Right Wing Zealots," you need to reassess your outlook on life in general and intrepretation of the Constitution in particular.
The exile leadership was the puppeteer. The family, however, appeared to be willing participants. "Right Wing Zealots" refers to a particular part of the Rep. party. Which, by the way, of which I am a card carrying member. However, my loyalties to justice run far deeper than my loyalties to a political party. I'm sure you are no different. If Reno really did violate the Constitutional rights of the Miami family we will find out in the "hearings". Contrary to your beliefs, however, Lott and his cronies will only succeed in demonstrating what complete lack of good leadership that they exercise AND that it is their policies that are at the root of Reno's actions.
You call yourself lawdog and you seem to write well, but it looks pretty clear to me that you are more involved in the entire situation emotionally, rather than rationally.
I find your insinuation insulting. I am no more emotionally or personally involved than you. Let me see if I understand you correctly. Your position is that anyone who believes this was a mockery of our laws and family values is too involved emotionally? Well I'd like to hear your description of the phoney fainter's problem.
Unless of course, you are like one of the Castro apologists I saw on some talk show that was trying to convince us that life in Cuba is vastly superior to life in this country. If you in fact think that Elian is going to a better life in Cuba, then I don't know how to continue the conversation; our frames of reference are just too far apart
Nice personal attack. It is on par with the rest of your drivel. |
