George, but they are not dropping rapidly anymore. the XAU has been oscillating around more or less the same levels for four weeks now.
the paradox you cite is due to the inertia of currency trends. shortly before they reach their inflection point, you usually get a spike in the existing trend, as the early position takers based on fundamentals get squeezed out. example: Soros...one of his funds was short the dollar vs. the Euro. that bet has been unwound in recent days.
probably at exactly the wrong moment.
