It seems straightforward enough that a startup company
would woo a major supplier with its product and the
opportunity of equity, would you agree?

Does it seem equally straightforward to you that the CTO
of the major supplier would take advantage of the decision making power of his POSITION to feather his own nest?

If the second example is OK in your books, then I say the
hell with buying shares in the company, because the self-serving company officials will look after their OWN interests so much that there will be no value left to the shareholders.....
