Without a little bit of socialism you have the freedom to fall to your death. It is (it seems to me) a mix of socialism and capitalism that keeps us away from the radical extremes. You trivialize the depths to which it is possible to sink when you mention dentures. Remember in the depths of the depression we could very easily have fallen into the same trap as Germany did- but we did not. By mixing in some socialism we averted becoming socialist or communist. Not that any of those exists in a totally "pure" form either. Limited socialism is compatible with reasonable liberty (imo).
