Jim, >"anything the green-eyed monsters can jump on about Intel, will be jumped on."
>>Now you're being ridiculous. Jealosy?<<
No, it's just that I went through the IBM era, where they were hated by practically everyone that couldn't compete with them. Then it was Intel. I wasn't thinking Microsoft at all. Organizations that are successful for a long time get factions, or groups that want them to fail to the point of hatred. Yeah, Microsoft too. Throw the Yankees in there, although I don't sense it as much with this current, Joe Torre led team. Were the Celtics hated by a many? I couldn't tell from where I was at.
On the current Microsoft situation, I strongly believe we'd all be worse off with a breakup, for just the reasons Bill is citing: intense cooperation between the applications and the OS, from both developers and the code itself point of views. The desktop PC has evolved into such an incredible productivity tool, that could only get worse with a breakup.
Off soapbox.
