Don't forget AMD's Athlon will move from slot to socket this year. This should lower Athlon costs quite a bit. No external cartridge, no L2 cache, no PCB, and a smaller heatsink/fan combo. Die size will go up, but I bet the move from slot to socket will more than make up for this. Later this year, AMD will be able to get MORE agressive with pricing and still make the money they are making now on each Athlon. Same thing with Intel and their transition to more .18 processors.
