<< a German mother took her two children back to Germany, placed them with the authorities and disappeared. The father (American) has been unable to get them back; Germany refused to take them from their foster family. This began in the early 90s. >>

<< But wouldn't you believe that this American father has the right to his children? And if you believe that, doesn't Juan? >>

Like you said, we don't know enough about this German case. I also believe that Juan is entitled to his own son, even if he did desert Elian for FOUR LONG MONTHS. However, my objective would be to get Juan and his family and Elian to stay in freedom here in the U.S. As long as the Miami Cuban Family held Elian, the was a chance that Juan, his other son, and his wife would remain in the U.S. Now, there is nothing keeping them in this country. Sad, isn't it?
