Vital Statistics - 4/25/00

According to VideoScan?s First Alert Reporting Retailers, DVD title sales for the week ending April 16, 2000 were slightly down from last week at 763,000. Year-to-date DVD titles sales remain strong at 11,295,000.

According to the Consumer Electronics Association, for the week ending April 14, 2000, DVD player unit sales to dealers were down significantly to 44,648, a 27.4 percent increase over 1999. Month-to-date sales are 91,239, a 37.7 percent increase and year-to-date sales are 1,274,864, a 167.2 percent increase.

VCR sales are also down. For the week, sales plummeted to 295,771, a (-9) percent decrease from 1999, month-to-date sales are at 559,040, a (-.5) percent decrease and year-to-date is at 5,156,342, a 12.4 percent increase over 1999.

However, projection TV sales are up and doing fairly well. Weekly sales were 17,875, a 29.7 percent increase over 1999. Month-to-date sales are 27,777, a 13.4 percent increase and year-to-date sales are at 353,253, a 35.3 percent increase.
