I see absolutely no evidence for your position. I don't see how Jefferson was responsible for the scientific advances of the last 100 years. If they had ALL occurred in America you might have more of a leg to stand on- but even if that WERE the case (and it isn't) the connection is tenuous.

IMO the "best" minds will always be interested in philosophy. I don't know what you've been reading but I've read a lot of modern philosophers and scientists- and they all have interesting ideas about philosophy. Philosophy is nowhere near dead- the fact that you state that it is, says more about you then it does about philosophy.
