It is not a "bad joke" it is very real. Notwithstanding Milton Friedmans opinion, Microsoft will be punished and aside from a monitory fine, this is the most appropriate method of solving the monopolistic behavior of countering Microsoft's statement: They can put a ham sandwich into Windows" if they wanted.

The company cannot put things in a closed and proprietary operating system that causes damage to other software companies.

The justice dep't.'s remedy is actually quite appropriate and John, this might create an opportunity for Microsoft in the end. The sum of the split companies may be greater than the value of each of its parts. It may be a boon to the stock eventually.
