Hi Mike, Back from the Wedding... Kennedy suffered from
Addison's Disease which is the withering away of the
Adrenal gland, It was fatal until a british doctor
discovered cortisone treatment in 1940. The cortisone
injections were what made Kennedy's face appear very puffy
in some pictures.

Kennedy was the first person in the world with Addison's
disease to ever survive invasive surgery ( he had back
surgery in 1954 and was in the hospital for 9 months.)

Richard Reeves who has written an excellent biography of
JFK, talked about these issues in the book and on C-SPAN
several years ago.

It's very cool the people that Chip has known in his days!
