From laserpro on Ragingbull KERA board #2650:

I've been tracking refractive surgery since 1985. PRK was approved in 1995, and 9000 procedures were done that year. In 1996 about 108,000 refractive procedures were done; 228,000 in 1997; 450,000 in 1998; 940,000 in 1999; and I've forecast 1.65 million for 2000.

LASIK began in 1996, with about 22,000 procedures (of the 108,000 total RS procedures); 91,000 in '97; 360,000 in '98; and an estimated 846,000 in '99. I'm guessing that of the 1.65 million RS procedures in 2000, 1.485 million will be LASIKs.

Mighty interestin'!
Phil
