I tend to believe Corel when they say application performance and stability running with WINE is on par with doing a port.

If history is any guide you should tend toward not taking anything they say seriously until you see the results -- the Network Computer and Java Office Suite were just the tip of the credibility iceberg. If the emulator is as fast as a port, then why did reviewers with Linux Magazine pan the product but excuse it as a BETA? They said it was painfully slow, or words to that effect. I felt they were too kind in giving it a pass for being a beta. They need to maintain credibility and not be the apologist for the loser in the bloatware war, just because they used to be a Microsoft competitor. Make no mistake about that, Corel is not a competitor of Microsoft and never really was. Not anymore than Bob's Cola is a competitor to Coke. If you're wondering who Bob's Cola is then you get the point. In any event, you should refer to the source directly for confirmation of that review.
